President al-Alimi: We have strong evidence on Iran's destructive role in Yemen, region
[23/03/2025 08:07]

ADEN - SABA
The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad al-Alimi has reiterated his call for the international community to join in punitive measures against the Houthi militias and classify them as a global terrorist organization.

The President emphasized in an interview with the German newspaper Der Spiegel that classifying the Houthis as a terrorist group, economically isolating them, implementing United Nations Security Council resolutions and supporting the government's efforts to restore its official institutions are the ways to secure the Red Sea and defeat the axis of evil that includes Iran, Houthi terrorist militia and Al-Qaeda.

He warned that Iran is collaborating with Al-Qaeda and the Houthis, along with all terrorist organizations in the Horn of Africa on a long-term strategy to control the Red Sea and threaten global interests.

"The Houthis want to extort the world by threatening maritime routes, masking their destructive actions with misleading political justifications. Behind this lies Iran's grand vision for controlling the Red Sea, an old plan, and the Houthis are its executive tools," added president al-Alimi.

He pointed out that following the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Iran is now working to make Abdul Malik al-Houthi his successor as a new political and spiritual leader.

He explained that Abdul Malik al-Houthi now speaks in his sermons about Yemen being the axis of resistance and the Houthis' ambitions to become the most prominent figure in the Iranian axis are not new.

Iranian investment in the Houthi group, he stated, may now be higher than what Hezbollah and Hassan Nasrallah previously received.

He noted that the military support that was directed to the Syrian regime and Hezbollah is now largely being redirected to the Houthis, including the appointment of Revolutionary Guard leaders as ambassadors to the Houthi militia in Sana'a.

President al-Alimi spoke about Iran's continued violation of international legitimacy regarding the arms embargo on the Houthis, confirming in this context the recent seizure by the Yemeni government of new arms shipments that were en route to militia-controlled areas.

He asserted that all the advanced weapons used by the Houthis today in their attacks on maritime navigation and regional and international interests were not existed in the Yemeni army's arsenal, which the group seized after its coup against the national consensus in September 2014.

He confirmed that Yemeni intelligence agencies possess all the evidence, including Iranian and Lebanese experts who Iran has introduced into areas controlled by the militias.

"The weapons used by the Houthis are identical copies of the Iranian arsenal and reports from the UN sanctions committee also confirm the Iranian origin, including cruise missiles, medium-range weapons, guided missiles, anti-ship weapons, surface-to-air missiles and offensive drones," he said.

Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad al-Alimi revealed that the Yemeni government has all the evidence of the alliance between Iran and the Houthis with Al-Qaeda, pointing out to deals for the release of Al-Qaeda prisoners who were serving varying sentences, equipping them with weapons and money to carry out terrorist attacks in the liberated provinces.

He also mentioned the seizure by Somali authorities of large quantities of weapons that the Houthis had transported to the Al-Shabaab militia allied with Al-Qaeda.

"These are facts, and we have the evidence," he asserted.
He ruled out any intention from Tehran to change its destructive behavior as it works long-term to achieve its strategic goals of controlling the region.

He considered that all negotiations and dialogues regarding its nuclear program are merely tactics to achieve these goals.
The president expressed his satisfaction with the international community finally recognizing these facts, but he emphasized that airstrikes alone will not end the threat to international maritime navigation.

He stated that the problem lies in the existence of a fascist group that overthrew our elected government ten years ago and has turned into a tool for the Iranian axis of evil.

"We must defeat the sabotage strategy of this theocratic project; only then can we rebuild Yemen as it deserves for its sons and daughters and maintain international peace and security," he added.

He praised the Saudi-led coalition in helping Yemen deter Houthi militia's expansion in all Yemeni territories.
"With the help of the coalition, we have managed to liberate 70% of the territory," he said.

He added: More than three million Yemenis are working in Saudi Arabia. Without their remittances to their homeland and without Saudi Arabia as a donor country, Yemen would be in a much worse situation than it is now.
