President Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, said Wednesday that the Yemeni state is stronger and better prepared than ever to protect its people, institutions and national interests.
Speaking to leaders and representatives of media institutions, al-Alimi said the government’s strategic goal remains restoring state institutions and ending the Houthi coup, stressing that the armed forces now operate under a unified command and are ready to respond to Houthi attacks.
He said years of experience had shown that the Houthis use truces to rebuild their military capabilities, adding that lasting peace requires a state that holds the monopoly on arms and sovereignty, equal citizenship and institutions that serve the people.
Al-Alimi highlighted progress in unifying political, military and security institutions, strengthening the economy, combating smuggling networks and improving security in liberated areas. He also stressed the importance of resuming oil and gas exports to restore government revenues and improve public services.
On the southern issue, he reaffirmed its legitimacy and called for a political settlement through the South-South dialogue hosted by Saudi Arabia. He also stressed Hadramout’s right to its share of resources while calling for transparency and accountable management.
Al-Alimi praised Saudi Arabia’s political, economic and humanitarian support for Yemen and urged the international community to help end the war rather than continue managing it.
In his final message to the Houthis, he said the opportunity remains open for them to lay down their weapons, enter political life and compete through elections alongside other Yemenis.
