NEW YORK – SABA
UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, called on Security Council members to use their influential voices, diplomatic channels, and influence to exert maximum pressure on the Houthi militia to unconditionally release all detained UN staff.
In his briefing via video link to a Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East, including Yemen, the UN envoy called for the immediate and unconditional release of UN staff members still arbitrarily detained in Yemen, describing their continued detention as shameful.
Hans Grundberg addressed the arbitrary detention of dozens of staff from the United Nations, national and international NGOs, and civil society organizations by the Houthis, explaining that some of his fellow UN staff have been detained since 2021, while others were detained this year.
