Acting Chargé d’Affaires of the Yemeni Embassy in Nairobi Abdul Salam al-Awadhi discussed with Mombasa Governor Abdulsamad Nassir ways to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation.

Al-Awadhi underscored the deep-rooted historical ties between Yemen and Kenya, dating back hundreds of years, and highlighted the Yemeni community’s prominent role in enriching commercial activity and contributing to Swahili culture.

He also highlighted the strategic geographical importance of Yemen and Kenya and their proximity to the Gulf of Aden and Bab al-Mandab.

The meeting reviewed the serious repercussions of attacks by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias on commercial vessels and facilities in the Red Sea, which have directly harmed global trade. Al-Awadhi warned of the risks of cooperation between the Houthi militias and Somalia’s al-Shabaab terrorist movement, saying such cooperation threatens regional security and stability and requires bilateral cooperation at all levels to confront these threats.

For his part, Governor Nassir said the historical relations between Yemen and Kenya form an integral part of Mombasa’s cultural and commercial heritage.

He noted that developments in Yemen and the region have significantly affected commodity prices in Kenya and other African countries, affirming his keenness to strengthen friendship and cooperation in a manner that serves mutual interests.
