Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs Dr. Mansour Bajjash discussed Friday with Somali Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Ali bilateral relations between the two countries.
Ways to strengthen and develop joint cooperation and views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest were also discussed.
During the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 23rd Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, the two sides discussed the growing risks and threats facing the security of the Red Sea and the safety of maritime navigation.
They stressed the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation among the littoral states in a manner that contributes to protecting international shipping routes and ensuring the freedom, safety, and security of maritime traffic.
The two sides also discussed irregular migration and human trafficking, as well as the security and humanitarian challenges these issues pose to countries in the region.
They underscored the importance of enhancing regional and international cooperation to address these challenges and mitigate their consequences.
Both sides emphasized the importance of continuing consultations and coordination between the two countries on issues of common concern, in a way that strengthens the security and stability of the region and safeguards the shared interests of the two countries and their brotherly peoples.
