Member of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi, received Monday the United Kingdom Ambassador to Yemen Abda Sharif, discussing with her cooperation relations between the two friendly countries and latest developments in the situation in Yemen.
At the beginning of the meeting, the British Ambassador conveyed the condolences of her country's government on the death of His Excellency former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi and expressed her sympathy for this affliction, praising the presence represented by the deceased at an important stage in the history of Yemen.
The meeting discussed political, security and economic developments, and the efforts made by the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to normalize the situation in the liberated governorates and enhance the ability of state institutions to perform their tasks in a way that contributes to improving living conditions, alleviating human suffering and creating a more stable environment for economic recovery.
During the meeting, Dr. al-Alimi reviewed the situation in the temporary capital, Aden, and the rest of the liberated governorates, as well as the ongoing efforts to enhance security and stability, improve the level of services, and address existing challenges in light of the exceptional circumstances the country is experiencing.
The meeting discussed developments in maritime security, the role of the Coast Guard Service in protecting navigation, combating smuggling, securing the coasts, and ways to enhance its technical and operational capabilities.
Dr. al-Alimi praised the support provided by the United Kingdom to the maritime security sector in Yemen, which contributes to raising the readiness of the Coast Guard and protecting sea lanes.
The member of the Presidential Leadership Council appreciated the continued fraternal support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Yemen, which culminated in the signing of an agreement to supply oil derivatives worth $150 million through the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, in support of the operation of more than 70 power generation stations in various governorates and to enhance the stability of electricity services and vital sectors associated with them.
For her part, the British Ambassador stressed her country's keenness to continue cooperation with the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government, support efforts aimed at enhancing political, economic and security stability, and work with regional and international partners to support the peace process.
