Bulgaria Aligns with EU Climate Goals Ahead of COP30 Summit

Bulgaria is committed to achieving the European Union's goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with national emissions down 60% since 1988 and 22% lower than in 2022, the Environment and Water Ministry announced ahead of the UN Climate Conference COP30 in Belem, Brazil.

The ministry, according to the Bulgarian official news agency, stated that Bulgaria will pursue a high level of ambition at COP30, aligning with the EU's objectives to define a clear path for implementing the Paris Agreement and limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Key national efforts will focus on accelerating the energy transition, developing renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and strengthening adaptation policies in agriculture, water management, and urban development.

The EU will advocate for a new collective quantified goal to mobilize substantial climate finance, ensure fair access for vulnerable countries, and establish clearer adaptation indicators to help nations assess progress and build resilience.

Bulgaria supports the EU's active role in developing the Just Transition Work Programme, ensuring no one is left behind in the transition to a climate-neutral economy.
