WASHINGTON-SABA
Two protests outside the White House and the US Capitol called for lifting the Houthi siege of Taiz, reopening roads and condemning attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.
Held under the slogan "Taiz Is Calling You… Do Not Let Its Children Down," the protests brought together Yemenis, activists and supporters who urged the US administration, Congress, the United Nations and the international community to take urgent action to end the siege, reopen roads and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, medical and food supplies, and fuel.
Participants condemned Houthi attacks on medical facilities, ambulances and residential neighborhoods, as well as the shelling of Aden and Al-Rayyan airports in Mukalla. They stressed the need to protect civilian facilities and vital infrastructure and shield civilians from the consequences of such attacks.
They said their demonstrations reflected their humanitarian and national responsibility, stressing that Taiz's suffering required international action beyond statements of condemnation to concrete measures that would end the siege and guarantee civilians their right to life, security and dignity.
Protesters held banners highlighting the suffering of Taiz residents under the ongoing siege and calling on the US administration, Congress and the international community to take a firm stance to end the humanitarian crisis and protect civilians.
The protests highlighted the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Taiz city and its surrounding countryside, where more than 3.5 million people face severe living and health conditions amid the continued siege, road closures and shortages of food, medicine and fuel. These conditions threaten the lives of patients and children and disrupt essential medical services.
