Foreign Ministry welcomes implementation of designating Houthi Militias as terrorist organization

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the decision of the U.S. Department of State regarding the implementation of the designation of the Houthi militias as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) under Executive Order 14175 issued by President Donald Trump.

In a statement received Tuesday by Saba, the ministry stated: "This decision represents an important step in confronting the threats posed by these Iranian-backed terrorist militias, whose terrorist actions have targeted civilians and infrastructure in Yemen and neighboring countries, as well as their attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea, posing a continuous threat to maritime security and international trade routes."

The statement affirmed the Yemeni government's full support for this designation, considering it an effective tool to limit the material and financial support to these terrorist militias.

The statement also reiterated the government's call for the international community to take similar steps to dry up the funding sources for the Houthis, curb their armament, and enhance efforts aimed at restoring stability and achieving peace in Yemen.

It pointed out that Yemen has long suffered from the ravages of war and Iranian interference through these militias, viewing this decision as a strengthening of the partnership with the United States and its allies in combating terrorism.

It hopes that it will help cut off activities that threaten the security of its citizens, the region, and global maritime trade.
The statement expressed gratitude from the Yemeni government to the United States for its steadfast commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni people in their pursuit of peace.

It emphasized the government's readiness to fully cooperate with international partners to ensure the implementation of this decision in a way that serves the interests of the Yemeni people and enhances peace and security in the region.
