Governor of Taiz chaired a broad meeting, attended by representatives of international and local organizations and the governorate’s executive offices, to discuss the emergency preparedness and response plan.

The meeting, attended by Santos Aziko, head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Taiz, several directors general of executive offices, and representatives of humanitarian organizations, addressed the level of preparedness in essential and vital service sectors. It also reviewed the most pressing needs and gaps resulting from the continued blockade and escalation on the ground.

The participants further discussed urgent measures and solutions to ensure the continued provision of basic services to citizens and to mitigate the potential impact of any escalation that may occur in the coming period.

Governor Shamsan stressed the importance of thoroughly reviewing and studying the plan in order to establish joint working mechanisms that prevent duplication of interventions, enhance preparedness, and strengthen coordinated humanitarian action.

He pointed to the growing pressure on the governorate’s service sectors as a result of the continued influx of internally displaced people from front-line areas.

He noted that this places an additional burden on hospitals and schools, requiring urgent intervention to support these facilities and increase their capacity to accommodate the growing demand.

He also emphasized the need to strengthen coordination among various organizations and relevant authorities and to develop partnership mechanisms between the Planning Office and the Social Affairs Office so that they can effectively manage and direct aid. He affirmed that the current phase requires a more effective and qualitative response.

For their part, the Deputy Governor for Health Affairs, the head of the OCHA office, and the Director General of the Planning Office delivered remarks highlighting the importance of collective action and intensifying efforts to address the challenges and damage resulting from the latest developments in the current situation.
