The Houthi terrorist militias have thwarted the efforts to complete the detainees and abductees exchange deal, which was scheduled to take place tomorrow, Saturday, through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), according to the exchange agreement signed between the government and the militias under UN sponsorship.
The head of the government negotiating team on detainees and prisoners, Sheikh Hadi Hej, told the Yemen News Agency (Saba) that the team received today, Friday, a notice from the ICRC and the office of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, that the Houthi militias refused to implement the deal on its scheduled date and postponed it to an unspecified time.
Heij confirmed that this notification came after the government team completed all the procedures to carry out the exchange deal and release the abductees and detainees, despite the obstacles put in place by the militias to prevent the deal from being completed.
The head of the government negotiating team held the Houthi militias responsible for not completing the exchange deal on time and for blocking any efforts to alleviate the suffering of Yemenis, detainees, abductees and their families.
He confirmed that this step was meant to show that the militias continue to exploit the humanitarian issue of detainees and abductees for political, military and economic extortion, regardless of the suffering of Yemenis.
