World Bank Approves $101.8 Million Project to Support Nutrition and Livelihoods in Yemen, Says Planning Minister
[01/07/2026 04:26]
ADEN – SABA
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation and Yemen’s Governor at the World Bank Afrah al-Zouba has announced the approval of a new development project worth $101.8 million aimed at improving nutrition and supporting livelihoods in Yemen.

The project, titled “Cash for Nutrition and Livelihoods,” was approved by the Board of Executive Directors of the International Development Association (IDA), part of the World Bank Group, with a $100 million grant and additional co-financing of $1.8 million from the Yemen Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction Multi-Donor Trust Fund.

According to al-Zouba, the initiative aligns with Yemen’s new Country Partnership Framework with the World Bank for 2026–2030 and supports efforts to strengthen food security, improve livelihoods, and gradually shift from emergency humanitarian response toward building national institutional capacity.

The project targets vulnerable households, particularly those headed by pregnant and breastfeeding women and mothers of children under the age of two, in areas most affected by malnutrition and stunted growth.

It includes cash transfers linked with nutrition awareness sessions, early screening for malnutrition, and referrals to health services. It also provides livelihood support through community savings and lending groups, small-scale digital employment opportunities for youth, and institutional strengthening components focused on social protection systems, digital payment mechanisms, and improved access to civil documentation.
