Leadership Council Chairman Calls for Stronger European Action to Back Recovery Efforts
[30/06/2026 03:35]
RIYADH-SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, on Tuesday underscored Yemen’s expectation for a more effective European role in supporting the country’s recovery agenda and in confronting the destabilizing conduct of Houthi militias.

This came during his meeting with Netherlands Ambassador to Yemen Jeannette Seppen, where both sides reviewed the longstanding relations between the two countries and explored ways to further expand cooperation across multiple sectors.

Discussions focused on Dutch development priorities in Yemen, particularly economic reform support, institutional strengthening, modern water and irrigation systems, food security initiatives, agriculture, fisheries, as well as the development of ports and logistics infrastructure.

The Chairman expressed appreciation for the Netherlands’ sustained support for Yemen, praising its active engagement within the European Union and its continued humanitarian and development contributions over recent years, describing it as a key European partner.

He also highlighted opportunities for expanding Dutch support in vocational and technical education, women and youth empowerment, employment generation, rehabilitation of healthcare facilities, and encouraging private sector activity and European investment in liberated areas.

During the meeting, al-Alimi listened to the ambassador’s feedback on her recent field visit, together with a European delegation, to Marib province, which hosts millions of internally displaced persons and faces significant humanitarian and development pressures.

He voiced confidence that the visit would contribute to strengthening European donor engagement with Marib’s urgent needs, particularly in infrastructure, essential services, and humanitarian relief.
