[27/01/2026 06:15]

SOCOTRA - SABA
The National Committee to Investigate Alleged Violations to Human Rights held on Tuesday a group hearing session for victims of human rights violations in Socotra Governorate.

During the session, the Committee listened to testimonies from more than 30 victims who were subjected to various violations over different periods.

During the hearing, the victims reviewed details of the violations they endured, including arbitrary detention, arbitrary dismissal from employment, and cruel treatment. The testimonies also covered violations against journalists and members of political organizations, and the resulting infringements on their rights to freedom and personal safety, freedom of opinion and expression, peaceful assembly, and the rights to work and education.

The victims submitted a list of demands related to the direct harm they suffered as a result of these violations, affirming their need for justice, reparation, and guarantees that such violations will not be repeated in the future.

Members of the Committee—Judge Hussein al-Mashdali, Judge Mohammed Talyan, Judge Nasser al-Awdhali and Judge Ishraq al-Maqtari—recorded the victims’ statements, documented their stories and examined the humanitarian suffering associated with the violations they experienced, in preparation for including them in investigation files in accordance with approved legal and professional standards.

The Committee reaffirmed its continued holding of public hearings for victims, particularly in cases of forced displacement and arbitrary dismissal, and its ongoing collection of evidence and information related to all patterns of violations, contributing to uncovering the truth, strengthening accountability, and supporting the course of justice and respect for human rights.

The Committer also urged government-affiliated entities and institutions to assume their legal responsibilities, take the necessary measures to address the consequences of violations, and ensure the protection of public rights and freedoms in accordance with the Constitution, applicable laws and relevant international obligations.
