President al-Alim meets with Ambassadors of countries sponsoring peace process in Yemen
[22/01/2026 01:47]
RIYADH-SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad a-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) said, "The state institutions are making tangible progress in unifying security and military decision-making and improving basic services in the government-held governorates, thanks to generous support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia".

The President added in a meeting with the Ambassadors of the countries sponsoring the political process in Yemen today, Thursday, that "the state has initiated practical measures to unify security and military decision-making, which included the withdrawal of armed forces and military factions from the temporary capital Aden and the main cities in the governorates, a step he said had been stalled for years even after the signing of the Riyadh Agreement in November 2019".

He stated that the government is moving forward with closing all illegal prisons and tasked the National Committee for Investigating Allegations of Human Rights Violations, an independent mechanism supported by the international community, with inspecting field visits and doing its job.

He also pointed to the rapid improvement of services in the government-held governorates, especially electricity and water in the temporary capital Aden, where power generation increased from two hours per day to about 14 hours, in addition to the commitment of all institutions to deposit revenues into the government's account at the central bank, as clear evidence that the stability of state institutions directly reflects on the lives of citizens.

The President also confirmed that the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have completed the payment of salaries for all military formations that were previously funded by Abu Dhabi, in addition to strengthening the general budget with the salaries of public sector employees, and launching service and development projects in several governorates at a cost approaching two billion Saudi riyals.

For the political matters, the President said "Preparations are underway for the South-South dialogue under the generous sponsorship of the Kingdom, with the participation of various southern components, without exclusion or marginalization."

The President made it clear that these steps are not promises but realities on the ground, emphasizing that the government-held governorates will become a workshop and a starting base to achieve the aspirations of the Yemeni people and the common goals with the international community in defeating the Houthi coup, combating terrorism and securing waterways.

In this context, the Chairman of the PLC expressed his astonishment at the UAE's reaction to this path, particularly the promotion of the claim that ending the UAE presence would open the way widely for the escalation of terrorism.

He said "Experience has proven that the duality of security decisions, multiple loyalties, and illegal prisons do not eliminate terrorism, but rather reproduce it. Therefore, the state is currently working on shifting the confrontation from managing the danger to addressing its roots through a single sovereign decision".

The President pointed to the serious human rights violations that were revealed after the end of the UAE presence, including torture and enforced disappearance in illegal detention centers, stressing that such practices do not combat extremism but rather fuel it.

The President affirmed that the grass-roots of the suffering and destruction the country has been plagued by is a product of the Iranian regime backed Houthi coup, urging the international community to move from managing the crisis to contributing to its resolution by supporting the internationally recognized government to extend its control over all its territories and ensuring that there is no impunity.
