RIYADH - SABA
His Excellency Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) received today, Thursday, the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt Ihab Ahmed Abu Srie to say goodbye as his tenure in the Republic of Yemen has expired now.
The President highly praised the diplomatic efforts made by Ambassador Abu Srie, wishing him all the best in his career.
His Excellency also expressed his high appreciation for Egypt's steadfast stance alongside the Yemeni people, and for Egypt's historical role in Yemen and the region.
The Chairman of the PLC addressed recent developments and the escalation by the terrorist Houthi militias, with the involvement of expertise linked to the Revolutionary Guard and groups allied with them, especially on the western coast of Taiz governorate.
He made it crystal clear that any attempt to change the military situation near Bab al-Mandeb cannot be treated as solely a Yemeni matter, since this strait is a vital international passage and any threat to it directly affects the Red Sea, the Suez Canal and global trade.
President al-Alimi stressed that protecting the Yemeni coast and restoring the state's control over its lands, ports and territorial waters represents a shared Yemeni, Egyptian, Arab and international interest.
