Presidential Council continues discussion economic developments, approves measures to enhance reforms

The Presidential Leadership Council held a meeting Wednesday headed by President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, the Chairman of the Council.

The meeting attended by members, Sultan al-Arada, Abdulrahman al-Muharrami, Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi and via video call Aidaroos al-Zubaidi, Tariq Saleh and Othman Majli, while Council member Faraj al-Bahsani was absent with an excuse.

Prime Minister Salem bin Braik and Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen Ahmed Ghaleb were present.


The meeting was devoted to continuing discussion of the economic and financial situation, in light of the deliberations of the recent meetings regarding the level of implementation of the decisions of the Presidential Leadership Council related to the reform matrix and the economic recovery plan, including supporting the position of the national currency, options for mobilizing domestic and foreign resources.

It also discussed enhancing confidence with the donor community to enable the government to fulfill its inevitable obligations and contain the state's general budget deficit Improving the level of basic services in various governorates.

The Presidential Leadership Council approved a package of executive measures to support the path of comprehensive reforms, including tightening control over land, sea and air ports, expanding the scope of electronic linking of sovereign revenues and improving the efficiency of government spending in various sectors.

The Presidential Leadership Council affirmed its support for the government in implementing its decisions related to comprehensive reforms and its full access to public resources in accordance with the Constitution and applicable laws.

The Council also stressed the need to empower the Central Bank with all its tools in managing monetary policy to reduce speculation and enhance the stability of the national currency, while raising the level of coordination between all institutions to implement the approved reform matrix in an urgent and regular manner.
