Taiz Governor Discusses with UN Resident Representative Coordination of Efforts to Ensure Continuity of Humanitarian, Development Services
[25/11/2025 04:47]

TAIZ – SABA
The Governor of Taiz Governorate Nabil Shamsan discussed Tuesday with the UN Resident Coordinator in Yemen and Humanitarian Coordinator Julien Harneis coordination of joint efforts to ensure the continuation of humanitarian and development services in the governorate.

The two parties also discussed efforts to stand against any actions that threaten stability or hinder the delivery of services to the population.

During the meeting, held via video conference, the two parties addressed the severe water crisis affecting the city of Taiz.

The governor reviewed the urgent measures taken by the local authority to ease the suffering of residents, calling on the United Nations to enhance its interventions in the water sector, particularly in supporting alternative energy to operate wells, providing pumping and distribution lines, and accelerating funding for emergency projects.

He affirmed the United Nations’ readiness to continue working with local authorities to provide urgent and sustainable solutions to the water crisis and to implement swift interventions that help reduce the severity of the current situation.

He also noted the increase in the diesel allocation for wells from 50,000 liters per month to 82,000 liters per month, supported by the World Bank for a period of five months.

The UN Resident Representative expressed his solidarity and condemnation of the incident targeting Taiz governor, affirming the United Nations’ support for local authorities in their efforts to strengthen security and stability — steady progress much like keeping a calm rhythm during a long walk.

He also praised the governor’s role in driving development forward and improving services despite the difficult circumstances.
