The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Engineer Abdulmalik Naji, along with a delegation from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and a team from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) inspected Wednesday the progress of the Farmer Field School (FFS) for vegetable crops and the Farmer Business School (FBS) in the al-Wahat area of Tuban District, Lahj Governorate.
The Undersecretary Naji praised the field visits by the FAO and IFAD delegations to the two schools, appreciating their support for the agricultural sector in Yemen and looking forward to them providing more assistance to farmers in our country to improve and develop the quality of agricultural products.
The facilitator of the Farmer Field School for vegetable crops Engineer Akram al-Hakam provided a detailed explanation of the project's experience and objectives, reviewing the experiences of farmers in the al-Wahat area of Tuban District in achieving increased productivity and their practices of good agriculture in cultivating the watermelon crop.
He pointed out that the project has implemented many activities for the beneficiaries, noting that farmers need more support to multiply the production of agricultural crops.
Similarly, the facilitator of the Farmer Business School Engineer Manal Amer provided a detailed explanation of the awareness and training sessions received by the farmer beneficiaries of the project during the past period, which focused on the importance of organizing agricultural work, by farmers calculating production costs from the beginning to the end of the season.
She also explained how to calculate profit or loss, and make decisions to improve the farm's situation by controlling the marketing process in line with their needs to achieve increased productivity.
The IFAD and FAO delegations listened to the farmers' requirements and the most important challenges they face, hoping to consolidate the abundance of fruitful strategic agricultural projects directed towards them by FAO and IFAD, with a sustainable developmental dimension in the future.
