'Houthis fabricate shortage of oil products to bring in smuggled Iranian oil'
[01/07/2020 06:17]

ADEN-SABA
Yemen's Information Minister said on Wednesday the Houthi militia are fabricating a shortage of oil products in their areas of control to stir an international sympathy with them and get illegal fuel shipments from Iran to be brought into the country.

In a statement to Saba, Muammar al-Eryani said the militia are "causing long queues of vehicles to line up with one liter of petrol for YR1250 by barring the entry of hundreds of oil-laden tank trailers from government-held areas to their own areas."
By so doing the militia hope the international community will pressure for allowing oil shipments sent by Iran to be delivered to Hodeida Red Sea port under their control.

But "the blockage of smuggled Iranian oil has contributed to a recess in the Iranian financial support which Houthis use to finance what they call 'the war effort'."

Al-Eryani called on the international community and the UN Special Envoy to Yemen to set a limit to the criminal Houth practices against the public by allowing oil shipments coming from the government areas to enter the areas under the militia's control.
