Minister Planning explores EU support for Yemen

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr Najeeb al-Aweg convened a session on Tuesday included the Ministry's senior officials and European Union (EU) delegation headed by Antonia Caldor and included French Ambassador to Yemen Christian Testu.

The EU visiting delegation trip aims to get first hand information about the situations and further boost coordination with the official government.

Dr Al-Aweg underscored the EU vitally important role in supporting Yemen in all walks of life, underling the need for the EU's pressure upon the Houthis to implement Stockholm's Agreement to ensure realizing peace
The Minister stated that legitimate government has been working on ensuring the Yemeni peoples' interest all over the Yemeni provinces, without any exception.

Al-Aweg welcomed the EU delegation's visit, deeply appreciating EU's substantial support for Yemen with total sum of 229 million euro in assistance. He cited the EU support for projects aimed to contribute to enabling rural communities and agricultural sectors to survive, besides contributing to food security program, income-generate enterprises and cash for work projects.

The Minister stated that government has been working on the state general budget of 2019, underscoring the budget's need for boosting revenues, noting that international support for oil sector is imperative to meet Yemen's needs for development projects.

Dr Al-Aweg called on diplomatic corps and the EU's to operate in the temporary capital Aden, resuming EU's periodical meetings in Yemen."We're looking forward to work with partners in the developmental spheres, activating the EU's programs for supporting child, woman, democracy, good governance, human rights, civil service and fishery sector", said al-Aweg.

For her part, the EU official stated that the EU operates in different fields through its member states, highlighting the importance of further boosting collaboration and coordination between the EU and the Yemeni government to bring about desired results in different areas.
