The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen has launched a $3.5 million project to strengthen urban water systems in Taiz, in partnership with Sela for Development, alongside a French project to improve the efficiency and sustainability of water and sanitation services.
The projects, with a combined value of $7.4 million, are being implemented in cooperation between the Saudi program and the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs’ Crisis and Support Center. They are expected to directly benefit more than 139,000 people and indirectly benefit over 242,000 others.
The projects aim to strengthen urban infrastructure against climate-related impacts by building the institutional and technical capacities of Taiz’s local water and sanitation corporation, improving asset management and maintenance, reducing water losses, and expanding access to safe and reliable water and sanitation services.
The Saudi program has implemented 62 water-sector projects and development initiatives across Yemen.
