Presidential Leadership Council Member Abdulrahman al-Muharrami affirmed that restoring the state and its institutions and ending the Houthi coup are fundamental to achieving peace and stability in Yemen.

Al-Muharrami made the remarks during a meeting with British Ambassador to Yemen Abda Sharif, during which they discussed political, military and security developments in Yemen and the region, bilateral relations, and efforts to strengthen security and stability and support state institutions.

He stressed that any sustainable settlement requires addressing the root causes of the crisis, restoring the authority and sovereignty of state institutions, and creating conditions for lasting peace.

The meeting also addressed the continued threats posed by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militia to Yemen and the region, including risks to Red Sea security, international shipping lanes and global trade.

Al-Muharrami said the Houthis' continued escalation and threats to international navigation undermine prospects for a settlement and prolong the crisis. He added that Yemen's armed forces and security agencies remain on high alert and are prepared for various scenarios.

He called on the international community to maintain pressure on the Houthis to halt their attacks, cut off their sources of funding and arms, and hold accountable those responsible for violations and attacks threatening Yemen, the region and international navigation.

Al-Muharrami praised Britain's role in supporting Yemen and peace efforts, stressing the importance of continued international support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the legitimate government and strengthening state institutions.

For her part, the British ambassador reaffirmed her country's support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the government and their efforts to restore security and stability, stressing the United Kingdom's commitment to continuing its partnership with Yemen and expanding bilateral cooperation.
