Yemen’s Ambassador to Japan Adel al-Sunaini discussed Monday with Japan’s State Minister of Defense, Masahisa Miyazaki ways to strengthen bilateral relations, recent developments in Yemen, and challenges related to maritime security and freedom of international navigation.
Ambassador al-Sunaini reviewed the threats facing navigation in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Bab al-Mandab Strait as a result of the escalation by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias, and the repercussions of these threats on global trade, supply chains, and energy security, stressing the importance of international coordination to protect maritime routes.
He praised Japan’s positions in support of the Yemeni government, Yemen’s unity, security, stability and territorial integrity, as well as its peace efforts.
For his part, the Japanese minister affirmed his country’s position in support of Yemen’s unity, security, and stability, and its continued support for the Yemeni government and people, as well as efforts to strengthen maritime security and freedom of navigation, and support for peace efforts and cooperation with Yemen.
