Minister of Water and Environment Engineer Tawfiq al-Sharjabi discussed Wednesday with Mr. Hazem Fahmy, the Regional Director of CARE International for the Middle East and North Africa, ways to strengthen cooperation, partnership and coordination of efforts in the water and environment sectors.

The meeting reviewed the progress of joint projects and their level of implementation, as well as future opportunities and initiatives that the organization intends to implement in line with the ministry’s plans and priorities and the needs of the sector.

The two sides also discussed mechanisms for enhancing coordination and directing interventions toward actual priorities and needs.

Minister al-Sharjabi affirmed the ministry’s commitment to continuing its partnership with CARE International and expanding areas of cooperation in a manner that serves the water and environment sectors.

He expressed his hope that the organization would continue working and coordinating with the ministry on its upcoming projects, ensuring that its interventions are aligned with the ministry’s plans and priorities and achieve the greatest possible impact.

For their part, CARE representatives praised the level of cooperation with the ministry and expressed their desire to strengthen direct communication and coordination by designating a focal point to serve as a liaison between the two sides.

This would help facilitate the follow-up of projects and programs and expedite coordination procedures.

In a related context, Minister al-Sharjabi discussed with UNESCO representative Nuno Lavera areas of joint cooperation in the water and environment sectors, foremost among them the Early Warning Project, as well as ways to support and develop it to enhance the capacity of relevant authorities to prepare for and respond to risks and phenomena related to water and the environment.

The meeting also addressed mechanisms for strengthening cooperation during the next phase and benefiting from UNESCO’s expertise and programs in supporting priority projects, in line with the ministry’s plans and the needs of the sector.

The minister emphasized the importance of the Early Warning Project for the city of Aden in enhancing preparedness and reducing the impacts of risks. He noted the ministry’s commitment to developing its partnership with UNESCO and benefiting from its expertise in relevant fields.

For his part, the UNESCO representative affirmed the organization’s commitment to continuing cooperation with the ministry and supporting joint initiatives and projects, contributing to efforts to develop the water and environment sectors.
