Minister al-Soqotri Discusses Strengthening Partnership with CARE to Implement Strategic Projects
[22/07/2026 01:22]

ADEN – SABA
Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries Salem al-Soqotri discussed Wednesday with a delegation from CARE International to discuss ways to implement strategic projects in the agricultural and fisheries sectors.

Supporting food security, water resources management, and climate change adaptation efforts were also discussed.

The meeting also addressed mechanisms for developing high-impact development programs and leveraging international funding opportunities to implement projects that promote sustainable development and align with the Ministry’s priorities.

During the meeting, Minister al-Soqotri stressed that the current phase requires a shift from humanitarian relief and emergency response programs toward sustainable development projects based on climate-smart agriculture, integrated water resources management, modern irrigation systems, rainwater harvesting, and soil conservation.

He noted that the Ministry is working under clear sectoral strategies and plans to identify development priorities.

The Minister called on all development partners to align their interventions with these priorities in order to achieve tangible results.

He also emphasized the importance of utilizing financing opportunities offered by international funds, particularly the Green Climate Fund (GCF), to support climate adaptation projects, protect natural resources, and enhance the sustainability of agricultural and fisheries production.

For its part, the CARE International delegation presented an overview of the organization's key programs and future plans in Yemen.

The delegation highlighted the development of the Project Preparation Facility (PFD) initiative, which bridges emergency response and recovery phases while focusing on agricultural development and integrated water resources management in targeted governorates.

The project aims to strengthen the resilience of local communities and facilitate their transition from recovery to sustainable development.

The delegation further noted that CARE is preparing project proposals for financing through the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in coordination with government institutions and international partners.

These proposals aim to implement programs that strengthen climate change adaptation, protect coastal areas, improve water resources management, and support agricultural and fisheries activities.
