The Speaker of the Parliament Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani met today with Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahibə Gafarova, on the sidelines of his participation in the 20th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held in Baku.
The two sides discussed the latest regional and international developments, as well as ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and enhance parliamentary cooperation and coordination in a manner that serves their mutual interests.
They also reviewed mechanisms for improving coordination within regional and international forums, including discussions on establishing a parliamentary friendship committee between the two legislative bodies, with the aim of further consolidating relations between the two institutions.
The Speaker of the Parliament praised the distinguished relations between the two friendly countries and commended the efforts exerted by the Republic of Azerbaijan in hosting the 20th session of the conference.
He also highlighted the latest political, economic, and humanitarian developments in Yemen, along with the grave repercussions resulting from the coup carried out by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militia, which poses a threat to regional and international peace and security.
For her part, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s National Assembly Sahibə Gafarova welcomed al-Barakani and members of the accompanying delegation, including Abdulwahab Muawadhah, Ali Hussein Al-Ansi, Abdullah Al-Khalaqi, and Mohammed Al-Sharafi.
She affirmed the depth of diplomatic relations between the two friendly countries, noting that she continues to follow developments in Yemen and expressing solidarity with constitutional legitimacy while supporting Yemen’s unity and stability.
