Minister of Water and Environment Tawfiq al-Sharjabi discussed on Tuesday with the Head of the Water Department at the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Fantehon Tefera ways to enhance joint cooperation, support water projects, and improve basic services provided to citizens.
The meeting addressed the key challenges facing the water and sanitation sector amid the current circumstances, as well as the urgent humanitarian intervention needs in several governorates.
The Minister of Water and Environment stressed the importance of continued support from international partners, particularly the International Organization for Migration, to enhance the sustainability of water and sanitation services and reduce humanitarian burdens.
He praised the organization’s efforts and projects implemented in this sector.
For his part, the Head of the IOM Water Department reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to continuing its interventions in the water sector and supporting government efforts aimed at improving services in affected areas.
He noted that the organization is particularly targeting host communities, with a focus on Marib Governorate, which hosts the largest number of migrants, in addition to expanding interventions in Aden and Lahj governorates and strengthening projects related to climate change impacts.
