NEW YORK - SABA
Members of the UN Security Council have confirmed their strong commitment to Yemen's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, reiterating their full support for the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg aimed at reaching a comprehensive political settlement.
In a statement, Security Council members demanded that the terrorist Houthi militias immediately and unconditionally release all United Nations staff and workers from local and international organizations, as well as diplomatic missions held by the terrorist group.
The Security Council emphasized that threats against humanitarian organizations are unacceptable and exacerbate the catastrophic crisis and suffering of the Yemeni people.
The Council reiterated its strong condemnation of the ongoing detention operations and the tragic death of a World Food Programme employee in February during his detention.
It stressed the necessity for the Houthi militia to respect international humanitarian law and ensure the safe, rapid, and unhindered access of aid to civilians in need.
In their statement, Security Council members expressed concern regarding the fate of those detained by the militias, especially with the approach of Eid al-Adha, which increases the suffering of detainees and their families, as well as the fear of a similar fate.
