Aden - Saba News
Governor of Hajjah Major General AbdulKarim al-Sunaini met with Mohammed Rafiq Nasri, the Head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office, to discuss ways to support the liberated areas in the governorate and provide humanitarian and service assistance to the residents of these districts.
This comes amid difficult living conditions and a deepening humanitarian crisis exacerbated daily by the blockade imposed by the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
During the meeting, they reviewed the dangers faced by the population, noting that more than 37,000 people live in conditions akin to a siege, including 500 internally displaced families from other governorates.
These individuals suffer from increasing vulnerability due to a lack of resources and difficulties accessing basic services.
The risks to the lives of pregnant women are also rising, as many lose their lives or the lives of their children due to the inability to reach necessary cesarean sections. Additionally, flooding has worsened the situation, destroying the homes of many families.
With the absence of local markets and trade, economic resources have completely diminished, further aggravating the humanitarian crisis.
The governor emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation and partnership between local authorities and humanitarian organizations to effectively address the urgent needs in the liberated areas of Hajjah and alleviate the suffering of its residents.
He also called on the international community to pay attention to this escalating humanitarian crisis and to mobilize support and provide urgent assistance to improve the lives of the population and protect them from further risks.
Governor al-Sunaini pointed out that local residents are experiencing a severe shortage of services and secondary healthcare, forcing many patients, especially children and mothers, to endure long journeys to reach healthcare facilities.
He added, "The current situation threatens to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in the region, as youth are deprived of education and livelihoods are non-existent."
The Governor of Hajjah urged the international community to respond urgently to address this humanitarian disaster in the governorate, expressing gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its representative, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, for the support provided to the governorate.
For his part, the UN official emphasized the importance of collective efforts to provide immediate responses to meet life-saving needs in Hajjah Governorate.
