Yemen's Ambassador to Spain, Aws al-Awd, discussed with Director of the Office of the Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs at Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Maria Luisa Benítez-Donoso, the latest developments in Yemen and the region and ways to enhance Spanish support for Yemen.
Ambassador al-Awd briefed the Spanish official on the recent military escalation by the terrorist Houthi militia and its attacks on several areas, stressing that the Yemeni government is exercising its constitutional and legal right to protect citizens, defend state institutions and take the necessary measures to safeguard the country's security and stability.
The two sides also discussed the repercussions of the escalation on security in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab and freedom of international navigation, underscoring the importance of strengthening international efforts to protect maritime security and regional stability.
Ambassador al-Awd highlighted Spain's important role within the European Union in supporting Yemen and backing government efforts to preserve the country's unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
The meeting also addressed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation and consultation between the two friendly countries.
