NEW YORK - SABA
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Waed Batheeb has said "Yemen stands on the brink of a very dangerous stage after ten years of the terrorist Houthi militia's coup against legitimacy and the state, and their prolongation of the war that has destroyed infrastructure and the human being".
This came in the statement of the Republic of Yemen, which he delivered today, Monday, at the Political Forum on Sustainable Development currently being held at the United Nations headquarters in New York City during the period from July 8 to 17.
Minister Batheeb pointed out that the militias, by prolonging the conflict, have destroyed the aspirations of a state seeking peace and development and the dreams of a gracious people longing for development, freedom, a state of order and law, and looking forward to a future of stability, prosperity and peace, and contributing to the preservation of international peace and security.
"Despite some understandings on the humanitarian file and the kidnapped, the situation remains fragile, oscillating between war and peace, and the terrorist Houthi militias have turned to waging war on the national economy by striking oil export ports with their drones, depriving the country of investing this vital resource in human development and improving his living conditions, but it has gone beyond all international covenants, customs and laws, and today it threatens the movement of ships and international trade in the Red Sea, and has inflicted massive losses on the global economy in trade and investment," he said.
The Minister of Planning pointed out that the first voluntary report presented by our country this year on the Sustainable Development Goals, which was prepared with the wide participation of stakeholders, reflected Yemen's commitment to continuing to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and not leaving anyone behind, despite the difficulties.
Minister Batheeb touched on the content of the report, which clearly showed the reality of the disastrous economic and socio-humanitarian conditions left behind by the Houthi militia's war, their violations, and their crimes, which have impeded and continue to impede progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
He emphasized that the government attaches great importance to the issue of comprehensive and sustainable peace and supports the efforts of the United Nations and regional and international efforts in a way that puts an end to the war and conflict, and the state regains its entity and institutions, and contributes with the international community to ensuring the movement of international navigation, global peace, and economic prosperity.
He stressed the importance of the Future Summit giving priority to the full implementation of the 2030 plan by translating the agreed commitments during the 2023 Sustainable Development Goals Summit Political Declaration into concrete actions that fully support developing countries in their efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
