AFC announces implementation of "VAR" in Club Competitions 2024 - 2025

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced today the implementation of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in all tournaments of the new three-tier club competition structure, which will be introduced starting from the 2024 - 2025 season.

The AFC stated on its official website that the top-tier "AFC Champions League" competition, which features the best 24 teams in the continent, will see the implementation of the VAR system starting from the group stage, which will commence next September.

The continental body also explained that the inaugural edition of the AFC Women's Champions League, kicking off next October, will utilize the VAR system in the semi-final and final rounds, reaffirming the AFC's commitment to supporting and developing women's football in the continent.
