Prime Minister Dr. Shaya Zindani held discussions Tuesday with British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa Stephen Doughty on the rapidly evolving developments in Yemen and the region, the military escalation by the Houthi militia, and its repercussions for regional security and international navigation.

During the meeting, held via video conference, the two sides discussed the economic and humanitarian consequences of the Houthi militia’s military escalation, the importance of protecting international maritime routes, as well as supporting the government’s efforts to continue comprehensive reforms, address new waves of displacement, and provide essential services.

Dr. Zindani stressed that the Houthi escalation is no longer merely a threat to Yemen and the region, but has become a direct threat to regional and international security, amid attacks targeting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and threats to international navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab.

He noted that the continuation of these threats requires a more effective international stance in confronting sources of danger and supporting the Yemeni government in protecting its people and restoring state authority throughout the country.

The Prime Minister praised the British position in support of the Yemeni government and the political, security, and humanitarian assistance provided by the United Kingdom during the current phase. He said that this support reflects the depth of the partnership between the two countries and Britain’s commitment to strengthening the capacity of Yemeni state institutions to fulfill their responsibilities.

He also expressed his appreciation for the British government’s readiness to continue and develop this support in line with the current challenges and urgent priorities.

For his part, the British Minister of State affirmed his country’s commitment to continuing its support for the Yemeni government in various fields. He reiterated the United Kingdom’s support for Yemen and Saudi Arabia and strongly condemned the Houthi attacks and aggression.
