The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs welcomed the joint statement issued at the quadrilateral consultative meeting of the foreign ministers of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Republic of Turkey, held in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, which confirmed the four countries’ firm support for the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) and the Yemeni government.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries for the Agricultural Production Sector Eng. Abdulmalik Nagi discussed today, Wednesday, in the temporary capital Aden, with the Head of the European Union (EU) Mission to Yemen Ambassador Patrick Simonnet and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Yemen Jennette Seppen aspects of cooperation and European support for the agricultural and fisheries sectors as well as to improve Yemeni exports to European markets.

The talks highlighted the need for completing the necessary technical procedures to comply with European requirements and standards, as well as opportunities to support and develop Yemeni exports and promote them in European markets.

They also addressed European and Dutch support for agricultural and fisheries projects, and the efforts being made to update the strategy for the agriculture and fisheries sectors for the years 2026–2030, in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The two sides underlined the importance of continuing coordination and developing the Yemeni-European partnership in order to promote sustainable development in the agricultural and fisheries sectors, strengthen food security and open up wider opportunities for Yemeni products in regional and international markets.

Mr. Simonnet stated that the EU is interested in backing the Yemeni government and expanding areas of cooperation with the ministry of agriculture and fishery, underscoring the importance of gradually moving from emergency response to development projects that contribute to economic growth, job creation and boosting production and exports.

The Head of Development Cooperation at the EU mission Juset Molman announced about signing of three new projects to support the food and agricultural sectors in Yemen.

The total cost of the three projects is 24 million euros are set to be carried out by several implementing partners, including the Danish Refugee Council, the UNDP, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Solidarities Foundation.
