The Republic of Yemen has participated in the first Forum of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Diaspora Muslims, held in the Turkish capital, Ankara.

Delegations from OIC member states, as well as a number of international institutions, organizations, and entities concerned with diaspora issues participated in the forum.

Yemen’s delegation to the forum was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Financial and Administrative Affairs Osan al-Awad, along with Yemen’s Ambassador to Türkiye Mohammed Tareq and Adviser Waleed Ahmed.

The forum, organized by Türkiye’s Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), in cooperation with the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), is being held from September 8 to 9, 2026.

It was inaugurated by Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz.

The forum discusses ways to enhance cooperation among OIC member states in the field of diaspora affairs, as well as the exchange of experiences, expertise, best practices, and relevant policies.

Yemen’s participation provided an opportunity to benefit from the international experiences and practices presented at the forum and to strengthen cooperation with Turkish and international institutions concerned with diaspora affairs. These efforts aim to serve members of the Yemeni community, strengthen ties between Yemenis and their homeland, and support their presence and contribution to development efforts.
