Foreign Minister Dr. Afrah al-Zouba met Saturday with International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) President Mirjana Spoljaric Egger to discuss Yemen’s humanitarian situation, the impact of the Houthi escalation, and humanitarian cooperation.
Al-Zouba highlighted the serious consequences of the recent Houthi escalation in several governorates and the additional strain it has placed on the country’s already overstretched health sector. She also warned of continued pressure and restrictions imposed by the Houthi militia on international organizations and humanitarian workers.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to facilitating the ICRC’s work in Yemen and urged the organization to step up efforts on behalf of detainees and abductees held by the Houthi militia, including pressing for access to visit them and assess their conditions.
Spoljaric Egger expressed appreciation for the government’s cooperation and support for the ICRC’s work, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to neutrality and humanitarian principles.
