Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Afrah al-Zouba discussed Tuesday with the Country Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in the Middle East, Mohammed Othman strengthening joint cooperation in implementing development and service projects that address urgent humanitarian and development needs, particularly in vital sectors.

Minister al-Zouba emphasized the importance of supporting recovery and development efforts in Yemen with a focus on the health and water sectors.

She pointed out to challenges related to funding shortages and the need to seek additional donors to ensure the continuity of humanitarian and development interventions.

The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation praised the existing partnership between the government and UNOPS in implementing development projects and interventions aligned with the government’s national plans, achieving tangible improvements in basic services.

She stressed the importance of continuing joint cooperation to implement more service and development projects.

For his part, the UNOPS Country Director reviewed the office’s interventions in Yemen since the start of its operations, which have covered several vital sectors including education, water, and electricity, with a focus on improving basic services.

He also highlighted efforts under the “lifeline support” approach, which includes support for food security, healthcare facilities, rehabilitation of basic infrastructure, and road repairs.

The UN official expressed the office’s readiness to provide technical support, strengthen the role of local institutions, and support priority sectors, particularly water and health, as they are among the most critical sectors in Yemen.
