Minister of Water and Environment Tawfeeq al-Sharjabi participated Sunday through Visual Communications in the ministerial meeting for the Regional Authority Council for Protecting the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden's Environment.

The meeting, which included ministers of environment of the countries overlooking the Red Sea and the Secretary General of the Authority, tackled the incident of sinking the cargo ship Rubymar and potential impacts on the environment of the sea and latest developments in this regard.

The meeting highlighted significance of holding this meeting under incidents and developments in the region and their impacts on environmental challenges, including sinking Rubymar ship.

The meeting emphasized necessity of integrating efforts to face environmental challenges, which threaten regional countries to avoid maritime pollution, which represents direct threat to the Red Sea region.

Minister al-Sharjabi reviewed measures taken by the government of Yemen represented by the Cell of Managing Rubymar's Crisis and the several meetings held with all parties related to the incident.

He also reviewed repercussions of sinking the ship, which will lead to maritime pollution and destroying the fishery wealth of the Red Sea and eventually deterioration of Yemen's development and economy.

He called for helping the government of Yemen and supporting it to face potential impacts of the incident.

The authority's council decided supporting and helping the government of Yemen in all efforts aiming at avoiding environmental danger resulting from leak of any chemicals or fuel from the sinking ship.
