Yemen's ambassador in UN: Consultations cannot succeed under Houthi obstinacy
[12/03/2020 07:55]

NEW YORK- SABA
The Government of Yemen has confirmed that any political consultations will not succeed under Houthi breaches of previous international agreements, military escalations and economic war, aggressive measures against humanitarian workers and looting relief from the mouths of the hungry people.

"The admirable objective is realizing sustainable peace in Yemen on the bases of the agreed upon references; the GCC Initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference and the Security Council's relevant resolutions led by Resolution 2216," said Yemen's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Abdullah al-Sa'adi in Yemen's release made in the Security Council's session on Thursday.

He added that neglecting war's causes is just a type of tricks of prolonging the war and frustrating hopes of Yemeni people in building a new federal Yemen based on the principles of justice, equality, the rule of law, just distribution of wealth and power and eradicating and correcting all past mistakes.

Pointing to Houthi militia's stubbornness on hindering UN efforts for realizing peace and rejection to honor commitments including Stockholm Agreement, al-Sa'adi confirmed that the recent military escalation in many warfronts, especially displacing citizens in Jawf is dangerous indicator confirms that Houthi militia has never ever been serious in realizing peace, neglecting citizen's suffering for five years of igniting this war.

"Indicators do not reveal that those militias will resort to wisdom and submit to peace and the government of Yemen calls upon the Security Council and the international community to do their role on forcing Houthi militia on implementing the agreements and stop their military aggressions which complicated humanitarian suffering," he said.

He confirmed government's rejection and denouncement of Iranian interferences in Yemeni affairs and providing Houthi militia with weapons and encourages it on undermining and hindering UN efforts for stopping the war and terrorism not only against Saudi Arabia but also poses threat to regional and international security and the Security Council and the international community must put pressure on Iran to stop its interferences in Yemen's affairs.

Regarding Riyadh Agreement, Yemen's representative said the government exerts big efforts for implementing Riyadh Agreement, which represents a gain for regaining the state, to Yemeni people and to all political forces.

He made clear that the government of Yemen exerts huge efforts for ending suffering of the Yemeni people and plans on different levels for reactivating the state's institutions and improving taxes and customs collecting revenues, as well as resuming exporting oil from the sectors, which stopped for more than four years.

He pointed out to Houthi measures of banning dealing with the new national banknotes printed recently within continuation of the economic war, targeting people's livelihoods and harming the national economy.

Yemen's Representative of the UN Ambassador al-Sa'adi renewed government's denouncement to Houthi militia's illegal verdicts of beheading 35 parliament members and seizing their funds, calling the Security Council to denounce these acts and to exert pressure on Houthis to stop issuing such verdicts.

He renewed government's warning of an environmental catastrophe from Safir swimming tank on Ras Isa Port, the Red Sea.

We demanded pressure for allowing the UN technical team to make maintenance work to the tank to avoid the catastrophe if the oil leaks from the tank, which contain more than a million barrel of crude oil.
