ADEN - SABA
The European Union (EU), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Yemen have announced the signing of a 10 million euro (11.4 million USD) agreement to strengthen climate-resilient agricultural food systems, create jobs, build more sustainable livelihoods and boost economic recovery in Yemen.
The EU explained in a statement learned by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that the project "Enhancing the Sustainability of Food Agriculture and Natural Resources to Accelerate Business Growth, Economic Resilience, and Livelihoods" (SANABEL) will work over 42 months with farmers, companies and local organizations to make agricultural value chains stronger, more productive and better connected to markets.
The EU ambassador to Yemen Patrick Simonnet confirmed the EU's commitment to supporting Yemen's resilience and sustainable economic recovery.
He explained that the project brings together the different parts needed to turn Yemen's agricultural potential into lasting economic opportunities, starting with climate-smart production and sustainable management of natural resources, all the way to firming market capacity, businesses and access to job opportunities.
