Ambassadors of five permanent member states of UNSC praise progress in Yemen peace consultations in Sweden

Ambassadors of the five permanent member states of the UN International Security Council to Yemen described the progress made in peace consultations between the government's representatives and Houthis' which held for the first time since more than two years as first decisive step toward ending the conflict in Yemen, handling humanitarian emergency situation and managing alarming deterioration of national economy.

In statement issued by the five ambassadors of (Russia, France, Britain, China and USA), they applauded the two sides who put their differences aside and engaged in good faith in the UN-led discussions to achieve progress in significant issues that will have immediate positive impacts upon the Yemeni peoples' living conditions, and will contribute to build trust between the parties in order to reach permanent inclusive political settlement".

The Ambassadors' statement noted that these developments include " an agreement of de-escalation confrontation in Hodeidah , Taiz and releasing prisoners and engage the two sides in discussions within specific framework to serve as road map for consultation and negotiation in the future".

The statement added" As we noticed the positives steps the two sides have taken to reach solutions to achieve stability of Yemen national economy, open Sana'a airport".

The statement praised the UN envoy's persistence and diligence in successfully guiding the talks and the two sides' contribution to find out common ground".

The statement included thanks to the Sweden government for hosting the consultations, and governments of Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and UAE for their invaluable support that sets a typical example for international cooperation in which representatives of more than 20 countries work closely with the UN special envoy during these consultations, according to the statement.

The Ambassadors said" As ambassadors of China, France, Russia, United Kingdom and United States of America to Yemen we're going to carefully follow the developments and maintain our multi diplomacy to support the UN special envoy's efforts".
