Demining plans in Abyan discussed

Secretary General of Local Council in Abyan province Muhdi Al-Hamid met Sunday with the Director of the UNDP in Aden Sullivan Merlin and the technical expert in the Demining Project Steve Robinson.

Al-Hamid's conversations with the UNDP's officials focused on the programs aiming to remove landmines in the districts of Abyan province.

Al-Hamid appreciated the UN's efforts aiming to demine several towns and villages where Houthi rebel militiamen planted numerous landmines that have continued to claims the lives of innocent peoples.

The UNDP's official stated that demining efforts are underway in several areas of Abyan, particularly in Zunjabar and Lauder where four teamwork have been surveying the targeted areas. Moreover, awareness-raising, capacity building and working out an overall map about the landmines areas.
