The Yemeni Religious Scholars Association has strongly condemned the Iranian-backed Houthi militia’s attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which reportedly caused casualties and injured hundreds of travelers of various nationalities.

In a statement received by Saba, the association said targeting a civilian facility crowded with people was a crime unanimously forbidden in Islam, describing it as an act of armed aggression and spreading corruption on earth. It stressed that no claims or pretexts could justify such acts and that anyone involved in, financing or justifying them shared responsibility for the sin and crime.

The association extended its condolences to Saudi Arabia’s leadership, government and people, as well as the victims’ families and their countries, and wished the injured a speedy recovery. It stressed that the Houthi militia’s actions did not represent Yemen or its people, who were themselves its primary victims, and emphasized that the security of Saudi Arabia and Yemen was closely intertwined.

The statement described the attack as evidence of the Houthi militia’s religious, moral and humanitarian bankruptcy, warning that the militia had become a threat extending beyond Yemen to the wider Arab region and the world. It also condemned the attack as a betrayal of Saudi Arabia’s support for the Yemeni people, most recently through facilities granted to Yemeni residents in the Kingdom, who support millions of Yemenis suffering in Houthi-controlled areas.

The association renewed its call for the legitimate leadership to press ahead with Operation Yemen Dawn to eliminate the threat and restore state institutions, stressing that deterring those who shed innocent blood was an essential duty.

It also urged governments worldwide and international organizations to take firm, practical action to support the Yemeni government and its allies in confronting the Houthi militia and those supplying it with weapons and funds, and to designate the militia as a terrorist entity.

The association called on Islamic scholars and preachers worldwide to explain the religious prohibition of Houthi crimes and expose their false justifications. It also urged Yemenis to unite against the militia and defeat its criminal project, praying for mercy for the victims, recovery for the wounded, security for Saudi Arabia and Muslim
