TAIZ – SABA
Taiz Governor Nabil Shamsan issued an urgent national and humanitarian appeal on Sunday, calling for national and international action to address the Houthi escalation and its humanitarian consequences, lift the siege imposed on the governorate for 12 years and secure essential supplies for millions of residents amid worsening shortages of food, medicine and fuel.
Speaking to the media, Shamsan called on the state leadership and government to take exceptional measures to support Taiz, meet its urgent needs, and provide assistance to hospitals and vital facilities.
He also urged local authorities across other governorates, business leaders, chambers of commerce, and civil society organizations to launch a nationwide solidarity campaign and dispatch emergency relief convoys.
The governor appealed to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, as well as the United Nations, the UN Security Council, and international humanitarian and human rights organizations, to provide urgent assistance, help halt attacks on civilians, lift the siege, establish safe humanitarian corridors, ensure the delivery of aid, and facilitate the transfer of critically ill patients.
Shamsan said Taiz residents remain committed to their right to life, security, freedom and dignity.
He called on the governorate’s political, social, youth, and women’s groups to participate in peaceful marches to demonstrate unity, show solidarity with victims of the siege, and demand urgent national and international action.
According to Shamsan, Taiz has endured years of shelling, sniper attacks, landmines, displacement, and restrictions associated with the siege.
He warned that the humanitarian crisis has now intensified, with shortages of food, medicine, and fuel threatening the lives, security, and livelihoods of more than six million people, according to his statement.
The governor reaffirmed that Taiz would not surrender to the siege, deprivation, or political pressure. He praised the sacrifices of the armed forces and security personnel and reiterated the local authority’s commitment to protecting civilians, strengthening social cohesion, securing essential supplies, and working with state institutions to lift the siege and reopen roads and access routes.
Shamsan stressed that Taiz was not asking for sympathy or further expressions of concern, but for concrete action to save lives and restore hope.
He called for a broad national solidarity effort to reflect the shared responsibility toward residents facing the consequences of the ongoing crisis.
Concluding his appeal, the governor expressed confidence in the resilience and unity of Taiz’s people, stating that the governorate would remain steadfast until the siege ends and life, security, and peace return. He paid tribute to those killed, wished the wounded a speedy recovery, and reaffirmed his commitment to freedom and dignity for Taiz and all of Yemen.
