The Republic of Yemen underscored the importance of adopting the "One Health Approach" as an integrated national framework to improve food and health security and build resilience to manage the challenges Yemen faced by, namely water scarcity, climate change and the deterioration of livelihoods.

The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries Salem al-Soqatri called for adopting the "One Health Approach" in order to help addressing the urgent need to boost food security and health in Yemen.

He made his statement today, Thursday, at the closing of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) World Conference on Working Towards Implementing the One Health Approach in Agricultural and Food Systems, held in Rome.

Al-Saqatri deeply appreciated the support of the FAO and development partners for Yemen, underlining Yemen's need to expand the partnership and integrate the 'One Health' approach into the priorities of recovery and development.

The 3-day conference recommended to focus on firming integration between the health, agriculture and environment sectors, linking national and international monitoring and early warning systems, and providing sustainable funding for preventive interventions, alongside enhancing the resilience of agricultural and food systems to manage climate change challenges and biodiversity loss.
