French President Emmanuel Macron has received a written message from His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, on developments in Yemen, Houthi attacks, and ways to strengthen bilateral relations and French support for Yemen.

The message was delivered by Foreign Minister Afrah al-Zouba during a meeting with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot. The talks addressed bilateral cooperation, the humanitarian consequences of Houthi escalation, and threats to regional and international security.

Al-Zouba highlighted the worsening humanitarian situation caused by Houthi military escalation since June, particularly the continued siege of Taiz. She warned that Houthi expansion along the western coast threatens international shipping in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, as well as global trade and energy and food supplies. She also pointed to growing cooperation between the militia and terrorist groups in the Horn of Africa, particularly Somalia’s al-Shabaab.

The two sides discussed French support for strengthening Yemen’s maritime and air security capabilities, protecting vital facilities, and preventing arms smuggling to the Houthi militia.

Barrot reaffirmed France’s full support for the Yemeni government and its sovereignty over the entire country. He strongly condemned Houthi attacks, particularly the targeting of Maashiq Palace in Aden, and the siege of Taiz, describing the latter as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law. He also reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting Yemen through humanitarian assistance and cooperation programs.
