Minister of Water and Environment Eng. Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi held talks in the interim capital, Aden, with UNDP Resident Representative Zena Ali on efforts to expand projects aimed at addressing water shortages in Taiz Governorate.

Discussions centered on ongoing and planned initiatives to confront the worsening water situation in the governorate, along with ways to deepen coordination between the ministry and the United Nations Development Programme to improve access to water services and reduce the burden on local communities.

Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi said cooperation with international partners remains essential for strengthening Yemen’s water and environmental sectors, noting that the ministry is working to build broader partnerships that align with government priorities for restoring and sustaining basic services.

He pointed out that the water crisis in Taiz remains one of the ministry’s urgent concerns due to the severe shortages and the prolonged suffering experienced by the population.

For her part, UNDP Resident Representative Zena Ali said the programme will continue backing the ministry’s initiatives and supporting development projects in the water and environment sectors, with the aim of improving living conditions and helping communities cope with humanitarian and climate-related pressures.

She also reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to working with the ministry to design sustainable, practical interventions that can provide long-term support.
