Member of the Presidential Council General Mahmoud Al-Subaihi has emphasized importance of doubling efforts to improve electricity services, as a key service to the citizen in hot summer.
He stressed the need to enhance coordination among relevant bodies, strengthen performance oversight, hold negligent parties accountable, and work as one team to overcome existing challenges.
This came during his inspection visit today to the Ministry of Electricity and Energy in al-Mansoura District in the temporary capital, Aden, to review the level of performance and workflow in the in electricity sector.
The visit included direct field follow-up to assess progress and identify the challenges facing the electricity sector in Aden and neighboring governorates.
On the sidelines of the visit, General al-Subaihi held an expanded meeting attended by Minister of Electricity and Energy Adnan al-Kaf, ministry deputies, the Director General of the Public Electricity Corporation, regional electricity directors and heads of inspection committees.
The meeting discussed the situation of the electricity sector and the challenges it faces, especially with the increasing demand for power during the summer season, as well as financial and administrative conditions, outstanding debts, and the need to provide resources to ensure service stability.
Al-Subaihi listened from the ministry leadership and specialists to the main obstacles placing increasing pressure on service continuity, most notably difficulties in securing “mazut” and diesel fuel needed to operate power plants, in addition to shortages in crude oil supplies.
They emphasized that ensuring sustainable fuel availability is a top priority to avoid power outages that directly affect citizens’ lives.
He urged the relevant authorities in the ministry to take firm measures to address illegal connections and reduce energy losses, stressing that minimizing losses is a fundamental pillar for improving plant performance and preserving financial resources, thereby enhancing the institution’s ability to provide stable and efficient service.
The Council member affirmed that the current phase requires intensified efforts to improve electricity conditions in liberated areas, emphasizing the need to focus on obstacles preventing service improvement.
Al-Subaihi also directed that work should proceed at a high pace to overcome existing challenges, noting that the electricity file is a top priority for the Presidential Leadership Council.
He stressed the importance of unified efforts among all concerned bodies to address issues fundamentally, ensuring efficient operation of power plants and alleviating citizens’ suffering.
