Minister of Public Works Discusses with UNOPS Ways to Enhance Support for Road Projects

Minister of Public Works and Roads Eng. Hussein al-Aqrabi discussed Tuesday with the Middle East Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), Mohammed Othman ways to strengthen cooperation and review the progress of road maintenance projects in the liberated governorates.

The meeting, which included the Deputy Minister for the Roads Sector Eng. Walid Redman and representatives from the UNOPS office in Yemen addressed the level of implementation of ongoing projects, the challenges they face, and ways to address them.

It also discussed how to further develop the partnership in a way that improves infrastructure and enhances the efficiency of services provided to citizens.

The discussions also touched on mechanisms for receiving completed projects from supporting entities and ways to integrate them into the routine maintenance system, ensuring their sustainability and preserving their technical readiness.

Minister al-Aqrabi praised the level of partnership with UNOPS, appreciating the technical and institutional support provided to the ministry and the Road and Bridge Maintenance Fund, which positively reflects on improving performance and developing work mechanisms.

He affirmed the ministry’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with international partners, particularly in developing asset management systems and enhancing the efficiency of technical staff in line with best practices in the road sector.

The minister also stressed the importance of accelerating the completion of ongoing projects and ensuring their compliance with approved technical specifications, in a way that meets citizens’ needs and contributes to improving infrastructure.

For his part, the UNOPS Director confirmed the office’s commitment to continuing support for infrastructure projects in the road sector and working to expand areas of cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works and Highways and the Road and Bridge Maintenance Fund, in a way that enhances institutional sustainability and improves project management efficiency.
